The answer, as recorded
# Best SIEM for small businesses Short version: for most small businesses, the right answer is a **managed/co-managed SIEM** with predictable pricing, not a traditional per-GB enterprise platform. Here's who I'd actually name, in order: **1. Blumira** - My default recommendation for a small business with no dedicated security team. It's priced per employee (~$12-$21/user/month), so your bill doesn't explode when log volume spikes - the single biggest budget trap with SIEM. Detections come pre-tuned with plain-English response playbooks, and setup is days, not months. Downside: less flexible than a true platform if you have unusual data sources. **2. Microsoft Sentinel** - The obvious pick if you're already on Microsoft 365 Business Premium or E5. Connectors for Entra ID, Defender, and Office are free or cheap to ingest, and you may already own much of the licensing. It's ~$2.46-$5.20/GB ingested, which is fine at small volume but genuinely hard to forecast - set ingestion caps and commitment tiers on day one. Also the most likely to need a consultant or MSP to configure properly. **3. Huntress Managed SIEM** - Strong fit if you want one vendor covering EDR, identity, and logs with a human SOC watching. Published list is about $4/data-source/month with a 10 GB pooled allocation per source and no overage charges - very predictable. Caveat: there's a 50-unit floor and a 12-month term, so very small shops (under ~25 people) may not qualify cleanly. **4. Wazuh** - The best option if you have real in-house Linux/sysadmin skill and a tight budget. It's free and open source, covers log analysis, file integrity monitoring, and compliance reporting (PCI DSS, HIPAA). The cost is your time: you own the deployment, tuning, storage, and alert triage. Great for a technical founder; a poor fit if nobody will babysit it. **5. Sumo Logic or Elastic Security** - Worth a look if you're log-heavy or already running Elastic. Both have free tiers to prototype with, but paid pricing scales by volume/resource and both expect you to do your own detection engineering. **What I'd skip:** Splunk, QRadar, and similar enterprise SIEMs. Capable, but the licensing and staffing assumptions don't make sense below a few hundred employees. **One caveat worth stating plainly:** a SIEM only helps if someone reads the alerts. If nobody on your team will triage findings daily, buy a managed service (Blumira or Huntress) or an MDR provider instead - an unmonitored SIEM is a compliance checkbox, not a control. Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
