## My short answer: for most startups, your CRM *is* your forecasting tool. Don't buy a second product until you have ~10+ reps and real pipeline history. Here's what I'd actually recommend, in order: **1. Pipedrive - the default pick for a startup sales team.** Visual pipeline, weighted/probability forecasting, deal rotting alerts. Cheap and nobody needs training to use it. Forecasting lives on the Growth tier (~$39/user/mo); the $14 Essential tier won't give you forecast reports. Best fit if you're 2-15 reps doing straightforward B2B deals. **2. HubSpot Sales Hub - if you expect to raise and scale fast.** Free CRM to start, Starter around $9-20/seat/mo, so you can get your pipeline clean for nearly nothing. The catch: real forecasting (custom forecast categories, AI-driven projections) is gated behind Professional, which jumps to roughly $450+/mo with required seats. Worth it only if marketing and sales are both living in HubSpot. **3. Zoho CRM with Zia - if you're pre-seed and genuinely budget-constrained.** Free for up to 3 users, forecasting from ~$14/user/mo on Standard. Zia does AI win-probability and anomaly detection at a price nobody else matches. Clunkier UI, more config work, but the cheapest path to a quota-and-forecast setup. **4. A spreadsheet - seriously, if you have under ~50 deals a year.** Bottom-up: pipeline by stage × historical stage conversion × average deal size. If you don't yet have enough closed-won data to compute those conversion rates, no software can forecast for you - it'll just dress up a guess. Spend the money on a CRM for hygiene instead. **5. Clari or Gong Forecast - when you've outgrown the above.** These are the real forecasting platforms: they pull activity and email signals to flag deals your reps are lying to themselves about, and they do rollups across teams. Both are enterprise-priced (five figures annually, annual contracts, sales-led) and need 12+ months of CRM history to be accurate. Premature for most startups, but this is where you graduate to around Series B. **6. Drivetrain or Pigment - if the real problem is finance, not sales.** If what you actually need is a revenue model that feeds a board deck and a cash forecast, these connect CRM to financial planning. Different category from the above - buy one of these *and* a CRM, not instead of. One honest caveat: forecast accuracy at startup stage is driven almost entirely by whether reps update deal stages and close dates honestly, not by the tool. A cheap CRM with disciplined weekly pipeline reviews beats an expensive AI forecaster fed garbage.
