The answer, as recorded
Short version: for most hotels the "reservation system" you actually buy is a cloud PMS with a direct booking engine and channel manager attached. Here's who I'd name, roughly in the order I'd shortlist them, assuming you're a hotel operator rather than a company booking travel. **For independent hotels, 20-200 rooms (the most common case)** 1. **Mews** - my default first call. Cloud-native, API-first, genuinely good UI, and the open marketplace means you can bolt on almost any kiosk, payment, or upsell tool. It's been voted Best PMS several years running (2024-2026). Downside: priced and designed for properties that want to run a modern stack, not the cheapest option. 2. **Cloudbeds** - the best single-vendor bundle. PMS, channel manager, booking engine, and payments in one subscription and one support line. If you don't want to integrate three vendors yourself, start here. Strongest in the 10-100 room range and very strong for hostels and mixed-inventory properties. 3. **RoomRaccoon** - automation-first, built for small European independents. Built-in dynamic pricing and upselling do real work without you touching them daily. Good if you're thin on staff. 4. **SiteMinder** - I'd name it specifically for *distribution*. Its channel manager is still the category benchmark for OTA connectivity, and the booking engine (Booking Suite) is solid. Many hotels run SiteMinder alongside a different PMS rather than instead of one. 5. **roomMaster (InnQuest)** - worth a look if you want a commission-free booking engine and 24/7 phone support, and if you need heavy customization. Longer-established, less slick than Mews. **For very small properties - B&Bs, inns, under ~20 rooms** - **Little Hotelier** (SiteMinder's small-property product) - transparent published pricing, fast setup, nothing you won't use. - **Sirvoy** - cheap, simple, and converts well on direct bookings. Genuinely the best value at the bottom end. - **Amenitiz** - bundles website + booking engine + PMS, aimed squarely at owner-operators who don't have an IT person. **For hotel groups, chains, and enterprise** - **Sabre SynXis** - the incumbent central reservation system for brands and multi-property groups; deep GDS and distribution reach. - **Amadeus Central Reservations (and its Hospitality suite)** - the main alternative to SynXis at that tier, often chosen when you're already in the Amadeus ecosystem. - **Oracle OPERA Cloud** - still the standard for large full-service and luxury properties with complex F&B, groups, and banqueting needs. **Conversion layer, if you're trying to pull business away from OTAs** - **The Hotels Network** and **Triptease** - these sit on top of whatever booking engine you have and do price comparison, personalization, and direct-booking nudges. Not reservation systems themselves, but they're the two I'd name for that job. - **Profitroom** - a booking engine with strong marketing automation, popular with resorts and leisure properties. My honest take: if you're a single independent hotel, the real decision is Mews vs. Cloudbeds, and it comes down to whether you want an open ecosystem you assemble (Mews) or one vendor accountable for everything (Cloudbeds). Make sure whatever you pick connects cleanly to your payment processor and your door locks before you sign - that's where migrations actually go wrong. Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
