The question asked, verbatim: best loyalty program software for small businesses
Brands named, in the order the engine gave
- Square recommended
Square Loyalty - my default recommendation.
- Square POS mentioned
If you're on Square POS (and a huge share of small businesses are), this is the least-friction option in existence: points accrue off the phone number customers already type in at checkout, no app for them to download, no separate dashboard for you.
- Clover mentioned
Clover Rewards - the equivalent pick if you're on Clover hardware.
- Clover Rewards mentioned
Clover Rewards - the equivalent pick if you're on Clover hardware.
- Toast mentioned
Toast Loyalty - only for restaurants already on Toast.
- Kangaroo Rewards mentioned
Kangaroo Rewards - the one I'd name if you're POS-agnostic or want loyalty plus marketing automation (email/SMS campaigns, referrals, branded app) in one tool.
- Fivestars mentioned
(source (https://www.voucherify.io/blog/best-loyalty-management-software-review)) I'd skip Fivestars (now SumUp) unless its "Love Local" discovery network is specifically what you want - pricing starts around $199/mo, quote-only, annual contract.
- SumUp mentioned

- Shopify mentioned
If you sell online on Shopify
- Smile.io recommended
Smile.io - the one to start with for most small stores.
- Rivo mentioned
Rivo - the better pick if you're Shopify-exclusive and budget-conscious.
- LoyaltyLion mentioned
LoyaltyLion - stronger analytics and segmentation than Smile, and the most generous free tier at 400 orders/month.
- Yotpo mentioned
Yotpo - only if you're already paying for Yotpo reviews or SMS and want to consolidate vendors.

The answer, as recorded
The honest answer is that "best" depends almost entirely on one thing: **what you already use to take payments.** The loyalty program should bolt onto that, not sit beside it. Here's who I'd actually name, in order: ## If you have a physical storefront (café, salon, retail, restaurant) **1. Square Loyalty** - my default recommendation. If you're on Square POS (and a huge share of small businesses are), this is the least-friction option in existence: points accrue off the phone number customers already type in at checkout, no app for them to download, no separate dashboard for you. $45/mo per location up to 500 loyalty visits, $75 up to 1,500, $105 up to 10,000, with a 30-day trial. The usage-based tiers mean you only pay more once it's demonstrably working. ([pricing detail](https://loop.fans/blog/best-loyalty-program-software-small-business)) **2. Clover Rewards** - the equivalent pick if you're on Clover hardware. Basic loyalty is bundled into the software plan (~$15/mo and up) rather than sold as an add-on, which is nice, but the built-in version is genuinely limited - most merchants end up adding a third-party loyalty app or Clover's Engagement Plus at $99/mo for segmentation, win-back and birthday automations. Fine if you're already locked into Clover; not a reason to switch to it. ([source](https://www.buildwithtoki.com/blog-post/pos-system-with-loyalty-program)) **3. Toast Loyalty** - only for restaurants already on Toast. Rewards sync across in-store, online ordering and delivery channels, which is the real selling point. But it's sold inside the Marketing Essentials bundle at $185/mo on top of your Toast subscription, which is steep for a single small location. ([source](https://www.favecard.co/en/blog/toast-loyalty-program/)) **4. Kangaroo Rewards** - the one I'd name if you're POS-agnostic or want loyalty plus marketing automation (email/SMS campaigns, referrals, branded app) in one tool. Built for SMBs rather than scaled down from enterprise. ([source](https://www.voucherify.io/blog/best-loyalty-management-software-review)) I'd skip **Fivestars (now SumUp)** unless its "Love Local" discovery network is specifically what you want - pricing starts around $199/mo, quote-only, annual contract. That's enterprise friction at small-business scale. ## If you sell online on Shopify **1. Smile.io** - the one to start with for most small stores. Most widely deployed, easiest setup, and the free tier covers up to 200 orders/month, which is a real program, not a demo. Starter is $49/mo (500 orders), Growth $199/mo (2,500). It's the right call under roughly $1M GMV. ([pricing](https://slashdot.org/software/comparison/Smile.io-vs-Square-Loyalty/)) **2. Rivo** - the better pick if you're Shopify-exclusive and budget-conscious. Deepest native integration (lives in your Shopify admin), month-to-month pricing, 4.8/5 across ~1,350+ reviews, free plan to 200 orders, then ~$79/mo. ([comparison](https://www.mageloyalty.com/blog/the-big-five-comparing-smile-loyaltylion-yotpo-growave-and-rivo-for-shopify)) **3. LoyaltyLion** - stronger analytics and segmentation than Smile, and the most generous free tier at 400 orders/month. But you won't need its depth until you're doing $500K-$3M+ in revenue. Grow into it, don't start on it. **4. Yotpo** - only if you're already paying for Yotpo reviews or SMS and want to consolidate vendors. It's powerful but the dashboard sits outside Shopify admin and setup is noticeably more complex - it's really mid-market software. ## Two caveats worth your time A lot of the "best loyalty app 2026" listicles ranking at the top of search are written by loyalty vendors about themselves (loop.fans, loyally.ai, stampeo, bonusqr and similar all appeared in my results ranking their own products first). Treat those rankings as ads. The pricing numbers they publish about competitors are usually accurate, which is what I've cited above - verify them on each vendor's own pricing page before you commit, since these change often. And the bigger point: redemption rate beats feature count. A punch-card-simple program customers actually understand, enrolled at the register with zero app download, will beat a tiered points-and-badges system nobody engages with. That's the main argument for picking whatever your POS already offers. **Sources:** - [Best Loyalty Program Software for Small Business (2026 Guide)](https://loop.fans/blog/best-loyalty-program-software-small-business) - [Compare Smile.io vs. Square Loyalty in 2026](https://slashdot.org/software/comparison/Smile.io-vs-Square-Loyalty/) - [20 best loyalty management software platforms in 2026, by business size](https://www.voucherify.io/blog/best-loyalty-management-software-review) - [The 7 Best POS Systems with Loyalty Programs (2026)](https://www.buildwithtoki.com/blog-post/pos-system-with-loyalty-program) - [Toast Loyalty Program: Full Review (2026)](https://www.favecard.co/en/blog/toast-loyalty-program/) - [Smile vs LoyaltyLion vs Yotpo vs Growave vs Rivo (2026)](https://www.mageloyalty.com/blog/the-big-five-comparing-smile-loyaltylion-yotpo-growave-and-rivo-for-shopify) - [8 best Shopify loyalty apps for 2026 (real pricing)](https://www.ringly.io/blog/best-shopify-loyalty-app)

Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
