Here's what I'd actually recommend, roughly in the order I'd consider them: **1. Gorgias - the default pick if you're on Shopify (or BigCommerce/WooCommerce).** It's built specifically for ecommerce rather than adapted to it. Agents see the customer's order history in the chat sidebar and can refund, cancel, duplicate, or edit an order without leaving the conversation - which is most of what store support actually *is*. It also attributes revenue to chats, so you can see what support is earning you. Starts around $10/mo for 50 tickets and scales up steeply (Advanced is ~$900/mo), so it's priced by volume, not seats. **2. Tidio - best value for small and mid-size stores.** Has a genuinely usable free tier, paid plans from ~$29/mo, and its Lyro AI agent handles a large share of routine "where's my order / do you ship to X / what's your return policy" questions on its own. If you're a one-to-five-person shop and don't want a $200/mo support stack, start here. **3. Intercom - best if you want the strongest AI and plan to grow into a real support org.** Fin is the best-regarded AI resolution engine on the market right now. The catch is the pricing model: ~$29/seat on Essential up to ~$132/seat on Expert, *plus* about $0.99 per AI resolution. That's fine at good margins and painful on low-value orders - do the math against your average order value before committing. **4. LiveChat - the boring, reliable choice.** Mature product, 200+ integrations, excellent agent-side UX, consistently high review scores. No deep ecommerce-specific superpowers like Gorgias, but it won't surprise you and it's easy to train staff on. **5. tawk.to - if the budget is zero.** Unlimited agents and unlimited chats, free. The tradeoff is a weaker product and upsells for AI/removing branding, but it's a perfectly legitimate way to find out whether chat moves your conversion rate before you pay for anything. **6. Zendesk - only if you're already enterprise.** Powerful and omnichannel, but it starts around $55/agent/mo for usable tiers and runs to $215/agent/mo, and it's overkill unless you have a support team of a dozen-plus people and multiple brands. **Skip the agonizing:** if you're on Shopify, it's Gorgias. If you're price-sensitive, it's Tidio. Those two cover probably 85% of online stores. One practical note: whichever you pick, the thing that determines whether live chat pays for itself is less the vendor than whether you staff it during your actual traffic peaks. An unanswered chat widget converts worse than no widget at all. Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
