The answer, as recorded
## My actual shortlist **1. Apollo.io** - The default first pick for most startups. One platform covering a large B2B contact database, enrichment, sequencing, and a Chrome extension, with a genuinely usable free tier and paid plans from ~$49/user/mo. For a team that needs "find leads + enrich them + email them" without stitching three tools together, this is the fastest path to value and the easiest to cancel if it doesn't work. Per-seat pricing means cost scales with headcount, not volume. **2. Clay** - The pick once you've outgrown a single data source. Its value is *waterfall enrichment*: try provider A, fall back to B, then C, so match rates climb well above any one vendor. The catch is real cost. It moved to $185/mo (Launch) and $495/mo (Growth) in a March 2026 pricing overhaul, credits are burned per *attempt* not per *success* (a 3-provider waterfall that finds nothing still charges you three times), and you may still pay underlying providers separately. The same overhaul cut marketplace rates 50-90%, so it's meaningfully cheaper per lookup than a year ago. Right for a dedicated GTM/ops person, overkill for a founder doing outbound between other jobs. **3. Cognism** - What I'd name specifically if you're selling into Europe or need mobile numbers. Human-verified phone data and GDPR-conscious sourcing are the differentiators; US-centric databases are noticeably weaker on both. Enterprise-ish sales motion and pricing, so it's a later-stage choice. **4. Snov.io** - The bootstrapped/pre-revenue answer. Email finding, verification, drip campaigns, and a free CRM on one credit-based plan with a free tier. Thinner data than Apollo, but it's enough to validate whether enrichment-driven outbound works for you before you spend real money. **5. HubSpot Breeze Intelligence (formerly Clearbit)** - Only if you're already on HubSpot. HubSpot acquired Clearbit (closed Dec 2023), retired the standalone brand and self-serve signup, and now sells the data as a credit-based add-on requiring a paid HubSpot subscription - roughly $75/mo at a realistic small-team entry point. No direct path if your CRM is Salesforce or Pipedrive. I'd skip it otherwise; it's no longer the independent best-in-class tool it once was. **If you want one sentence:** start on Apollo's free tier, upgrade to paid Apollo when it's working, and only add Clay when you have someone whose job is to run it. ⚠️ One caveat on sourcing: most "best lead enrichment tools 2026" articles are SEO content published by competing vendors ranking themselves first. I've left out tools that only appeared in their own promotional posts. Treat specific match-rate claims in those articles skeptically and run your own test list of ~100 known contacts before committing. Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited.
