The answer, as recorded
Quick framing: "financial planning software" for a small business usually means budgeting, forecasting, and cash-flow planning layered on top of your accounting system - not the advisor tools (eMoney, RightCapital) that serve financial planners. Here's what I'd actually recommend, roughly in the order I'd try them. **1. LivePlan - best starting point for most genuinely small businesses** Entry pricing around $20/month, syncs with QuickBooks and Xero, and handles budgets, forecasts, and a business plan in one place. Reviewers consistently rate it easier to set up and use than the heavier FP&A tools. If you're under ~$2M revenue and don't have a finance person, start here. **2. Fathom - best for reporting and dashboards you'd show a board or lender** Starts around A$59/month per company with unlimited users (new pricing as of August 2026), sits on QuickBooks Online or Xero, and produces polished KPI dashboards and management reports without needing an FP&A hire. The usual pick for $1M-$10M businesses. **3. Float - best if cash flow is the actual problem** Purpose-built cash-flow forecasting, $59/month (Essential, 3 users) up to $199/month (Enterprise), 20% off annually. Works only with Xero, QuickBooks Online, or FreeAgent. If you're trying to answer "will I make payroll in nine weeks," this is more useful than a full FP&A suite. **4. Jirav - best when you've outgrown spreadsheets and want real driver-based modeling** Three-statement, driver-based models with workforce planning, integrations to QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite, and Intacct, and a lower implementation cost than most FP&A platforms. Pricing is quote-only. Right when you have someone whose job is at least partly financial analysis. **5. LiveFlow - best if your team lives in Google Sheets** Pipes QuickBooks Online data live into Google Sheets so your existing models refresh themselves. Mid-range, unpublished pricing. Narrow but very good at that one job. **6. Datarails or Cube - best if you refuse to leave Excel** Both are spreadsheet-native FP&A layers that automate consolidation and reporting inside Excel or Google Sheets. Cube skews mid-market/enterprise; Datarails works for smaller finance teams with heavy legacy spreadsheets. These are a step up in cost and complexity from everything above. One note: Causal, which used to be the popular cheap modeling pick, was acquired by Lucanet in October 2024 and has been folded into an enterprise CFO platform - I wouldn't start there as a small business today. If you just want one answer: **LivePlan if you're small and lean, Fathom if you need reporting, Float if cash timing is the pain.** Sources: - [Jirav vs LivePlan comparison (G2)](https://www.g2.com/compare/jirav-vs-liveplan) - [Jirav alternatives for small business (G2)](https://www.g2.com/products/jirav/competitors/alternatives/small-business) - [Float Cash Flow pricing (Capterra)](https://www.capterra.com/p/226486/Float-Cash-Flow/) - [Fathom vs Jirav vs LiveFlow reporting comparison](https://eightx.co/blog/fathom-vs-jirav-vs-liveflow-reporting) - [Best FP&A software for small businesses (Cube)](https://cubesoftware.com/blog/best-fpa-software-for-small-businesses) - [Causal joins the Lucanet Group](https://www.lucanet.com/en/press-releases/causal-joins-the-lucanet-group-31-10-2024/)

Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
