The question asked, verbatim: best event management software for small businesses

Brands named, in the order the engine gave

  1. Eventbrite mentioned
Eventbrite - the default, and the right first call for most small businesses.
  2. Ticket Tailor mentioned
Ticket Tailor - what I'd move to the moment Eventbrite's cut starts to sting.
  3. Stripe mentioned
Flat low fee per ticket instead of a percentage, so a $150 workshop costs you the same as a $15 one, and payouts go straight to your Stripe/PayPal.
  4. PayPal mentioned
Flat low fee per ticket instead of a percentage, so a $150 workshop costs you the same as a $15 one, and payouts go straight to your Stripe/PayPal.
  5. Zoho mentioned
Zoho Backstage - best if you want 0% commission and are already in the Zoho ecosystem (or willing to pay a flat subscription from around $99/month on paid tiers).
  6. Zoho Backstage mentioned
Zoho Backstage - best if you want 0% commission and are already in the Zoho ecosystem (or willing to pay a flat subscription from around $99/month on paid tiers).
  7. Whova mentioned
Whova - I'd name this specifically for conferences and association events where attendee networking and the mobile agenda app matter.
  8. Cvent mentioned
I would not point a small business at Cvent.
  9. Perfect Venue mentioned
Perfect Venue - the one I'd try first.
  10. Tripleseat mentioned
Tripleseat - the industry standard for restaurant and hotel private dining, ~4.7 rated.
  11. HoneyBook mentioned
HoneyBook - around $36/month, 4.7 rated across a large review base.
  12. Planning Pod mentioned
    Planning Pod - around $74/month.

The answer, as recorded

"Event management software" splits into three pretty different tools, so here's what I'd actually recommend in each case, with the ones I'd name first. ## If you sell tickets to your own events (classes, workshops, conferences, pop-ups) **1. Eventbrite** - the default, and the right first call for most small businesses. Free to list free events, and paid tickets run roughly 3.7% + $1.79 per ticket plus ~2.9% processing, with cheaper Essentials tiers. You get discovery traffic from Eventbrite's own marketplace, which no self-hosted tool gives you. Downside: per-ticket fees scale badly once you're selling hundreds of tickets, and your branding plays second fiddle to theirs. **2. Ticket Tailor** - what I'd move to the moment Eventbrite's cut starts to sting. Flat low fee per ticket instead of a percentage, so a $150 workshop costs you the same as a $15 one, and payouts go straight to your Stripe/PayPal. Far less discovery, so it suits businesses with their own audience list. **3. Zoho Backstage** - best if you want 0% commission and are already in the Zoho ecosystem (or willing to pay a flat subscription from around $99/month on paid tiers). Genuine conference features: agenda, speakers, a branded event microsite, attendee app. Overkill if you run four events a year. **4. Whova** - I'd name this specifically for conferences and association events where attendee networking and the mobile agenda app matter. Reviewers consistently like it. Pricing is quote-only with no free tier, which is the friction point for a small operation. I would *not* point a small business at **Cvent**. It's the strongest product in this category and that's exactly the problem - it's priced and scoped for enterprise event teams, with no public pricing and a sales-led onboarding process. ## If you're a venue (restaurant, brewery, event space) booking private events **1. Perfect Venue** - the one I'd try first. Built for independent venues, strongly reviewed (~4.8), straightforward pricing, handles leads, proposals, BEOs and the event calendar without a long implementation. **2. Tripleseat** - the industry standard for restaurant and hotel private dining, ~4.7 rated. More powerful and more expensive; worth it if private events are a serious revenue line rather than an occasional thing. ## If you're an event *planner* selling planning services **1. HoneyBook** - around $36/month, 4.7 rated across a large review base. It's really a client CRM: inquiries, proposals, contracts, invoices, payments. Best for solo planners and small teams whose bottleneck is sales admin, not logistics. **2. Planning Pod** - around $74/month. Actual event logistics: timelines, floorplans, BEOs, task management, registration, venue calendars. This is the pick if you're running several concurrent weddings or corporate events and HoneyBook leaves you doing the real work in spreadsheets. ## The short version Selling tickets, just starting → **Eventbrite**. Selling lots of tickets to your own list → **Ticket Tailor**. A venue → **Perfect Venue**. A planning business → **HoneyBook**, or **Planning Pod** if logistics are the hard part. One caveat on the numbers: ticketing fees and tiers change often, and Whova and Cvent don't publish prices at all, so confirm current rates on the vendor's own pricing page before committing.
