The answer, as recorded
The honest answer is that "best" splits hard by what you rent and how big you are - a party-tent company and a 40-branch excavator fleet shouldn't be on the same software. Here's who I'd actually name, in the order I'd name them: ## If you rent construction/heavy equipment **1. Point of Rental** - My default first call for most independent rental yards. It's the most vertically flexible of the serious players: heavy equipment, general tool, event/party, and specialty all in one platform, with cloud, on-prem, or hybrid deployment and a genuinely complete mobile app set (dispatch, inspections, driver tools, rental desk, e-signature). Biggest install base in the US, which means easier hiring and more integration partners. Caveat: most shops bolt on external accounting rather than using it natively. **2. Texada** - Pick this over Point of Rental if you're mid-to-large, purely heavy equipment, and especially if you're a dealer doing rental + sales + service. Cloud-only, integrated rental accounting (no separate GL to reconcile), and its AI-powered inspection tooling is the best in the category right now. Narrower than POR if you ever want to add event or party rental. **3. Wynne Systems (RentalMan)** - Only if you're enterprise scale, roughly $30M+ in rental revenue and multi-branch. Seven of the top ten North American rental companies run it, and it's a true end-to-end ERP (purchasing, AP, rental, maintenance, AR, GL in one). Under continuous development since 1991, so it's keystroke-driven and fast for high-volume counter staff but feels dated and unforgiving - exit a screen by accident and the work is gone. Overkill and over-budget below that size. **4. InTempo** - Worth a demo as the mid-market alternative to Texada in the heavy/general tool space; competes on price and service responsiveness against the big two. **5. MCS Rental Software** - Strongest if you have UK/European operations or plant hire; less common in the US. ## If you're small or mid-sized and rent general gear **6. Booqable** - Best value and the easiest to get live, from ~$29/mo. Real-time availability engine, flexible pricing rules, and a built-in online storefront with checkout, which matters if you want customers booking themselves. Rated 4.8/5 and consistently reviewed as easier to set up and administer than its peers. It will not handle complex service/maintenance workflows or multi-branch accounting. **7. EZRentOut (EZO)** - From ~$59-89/mo. The best pick when you need real asset-level tracking (serial numbers, barcodes, maintenance history) alongside rental booking - strong for IT equipment, cameras, and mixed fleets. Modern UI, solid mobile app, 4.5/5. **8. Rentman** - The specialist for AV, event, and film/production rental, from ~$39/mo plus $19-30/user. The differentiator is crew scheduling fused to inventory, so it's cost-effective precisely when you're coordinating warehouse staff and freelancers alongside gear. If that's not your business, skip it. **9. HireHop** - Has a free tier, so it's the cheapest real way to get off spreadsheets for a very small operation. ## Specialty cases **10. Sycor.Rental** - Only if you're already committed to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Supply Chain. It embeds rental logic into your existing ERP, which is the right call for a large organization where rental is one division, and the wrong call for a standalone rental business. **11. Record360** - Not a rental platform; it's condition-documentation/damage-capture software. Add it alongside any of the above if damage disputes are costing you money, though Texada and Point of Rental now cover much of this natively. My practical advice: if you're under ~$3M in revenue, start with Booqable or EZRentOut and don't let a vendor sell you an ERP. Above that, with multiple branches and real service departments, demo Point of Rental and Texada head to head and make them both quote the full implementation and data-migration cost, not just the subscription - that's where these projects actually go wrong. Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
