## My actual recommendations, in order **1. Gusto** - My default pick for most small businesses. Onboarding here isn't a standalone product, it's bolted to payroll: the new hire enters their own W-4, I-9, direct deposit, and signs offer letters/NDAs before day one, and it flows straight into their first paycheck. Simple plan is **$49/mo + $6 per person** (base went from $40 to $49 on March 1, 2026). If you're buying one piece of HR software, this is the one that earns its keep every two weeks. **2. BambooHR** - Pick this if the *experience* matters to you - welcome emails, onboarding task checklists with owners, "get to know you" intros, e-signatures, and an org chart new hires can actually use. The pricing quirk works in your favor: **companies with ≤25 employees pay a flat rate starting around $250/mo** rather than per-head, so it's comparatively cheap for a 20-person team and the better choice if you've already got payroll elsewhere. **3. Rippling** - The right answer if "onboarding" includes a laptop, a Google Workspace account, and Slack/1Password access. One workflow handles the paperwork *and* provisions the devices and apps, then deprovisions on offboarding. Starts around **$8/user/mo** but it's modular and quote-based, so expect the real number to land higher. Worth it if you're 15+ people and tech-heavy; overkill for a 6-person shop. **4. Homebase** - If your team is hourly - restaurant, retail, salon, clinic front desk - go here instead of the three above. Hiring, onboarding, scheduling, time clock, and payroll in one app, built around high turnover and frequent re-onboarding. Has a genuinely usable free tier for a single location. **5. WorkBright** - Narrow but best-in-class for one job: remote, seasonal, or field hires who will never set foot in your office. Fully mobile paperwork and remote I-9 completion done properly. Pricing is by annual hire volume (roughly **$9.50-$17/user/mo** for under ~100 hires/yr) with a 60-day trial. Camps, construction, home health, staffing agencies. **6. Trainual** - Not HR paperwork at all - this is the "how we actually do things here" half of onboarding. SOPs, role-based training paths, and quizzes that confirm someone read it. Pair it with Gusto rather than choosing between them. Best if you're hiring into the same 3-4 roles repeatedly. **7. Zoho People** - The budget/flexible option, and the obvious move if you're already on Zoho One. Cheapest per-seat of the group, but the setup is more hands-on and the polish is a step below BambooHR. **Short version:** no payroll yet → **Gusto**. Payroll sorted, want a real onboarding experience → **BambooHR**. Hourly team → **Homebase**. Need to hand out laptops and accounts too → **Rippling**. One caveat: published pricing on these shifts often (see the Gusto increase this March), and Rippling and WorkBright are quote-only - confirm numbers on the vendor's own pricing page before you commit. Most of these offer a free trial; I'd trial your top two with one real new hire rather than deciding on a feature grid. Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
