The question asked, verbatim: best employee onboarding software for remote teams

Brands named, in the order the engine gave

  1. Rippling mentioned
Rippling - my default pick for a remote team.
  2. Google mentioned
It's the only one where HR onboarding and IT onboarding are the same workflow: you hire someone, and it ships the laptop, creates their Google/Slack/GitHub accounts, enrolls them in payroll and benefits, and then deprovisions all of it on offboarding.
  3. Slack mentioned
It's the only one where HR onboarding and IT onboarding are the same workflow: you hire someone, and it ships the laptop, creates their Google/Slack/GitHub accounts, enrolls them in payroll and benefits, and then deprovisions all of it on offboarding.
  4. GitHub mentioned
It's the only one where HR onboarding and IT onboarding are the same workflow: you hire someone, and it ships the laptop, creates their Google/Slack/GitHub accounts, enrolls them in payroll and benefits, and then deprovisions all of it on offboarding.
  5. Deel mentioned
Deel - pick this instead if your team spans countries.
  6. BambooHR mentioned
If you're hiring people in Brazil, Portugal and the Philippines, this solves a problem Rippling and BambooHR only partly solve.
  7. Gusto mentioned
    Gusto - if you're small, US-only, and price-sensitive.
  8. Appical mentioned
Appical - a dedicated onboarding experience layer rather than an HRIS.
  9. Donut mentioned
Donut (Slack) - not onboarding software, but I'd add it to any of the above for $5-ish/user.
  10. Workday mentioned
Workday - only if you're 1,000+ people with global compliance and audit requirements.
  11. Notion mentioned
One honest caveat: if you're under ~15 people, a good Notion or Asana onboarding template plus a checklist will outperform badly-configured software, and costs nothing.
  12. Asana mentioned
One honest caveat: if you're under ~15 people, a good Notion or Asana onboarding template plus a checklist will outperform badly-configured software, and costs nothing.
  13. Jotform mentioned

The answer, as recorded

Here's how I'd actually rank them, depending on what "remote" means for you: **1. Rippling** - my default pick for a remote team. It's the only one where HR onboarding and *IT* onboarding are the same workflow: you hire someone, and it ships the laptop, creates their Google/Slack/GitHub accounts, enrolls them in payroll and benefits, and then deprovisions all of it on offboarding. For distributed teams, that "zero-touch provisioning" is the part that usually breaks, and it's the part most HR tools don't touch. **2. Deel** - pick this instead if your team spans countries. It handles EOR employment, contractor compliance, local contracts and localized onboarding paperwork in 150+ countries. If you're hiring people in Brazil, Portugal and the Philippines, this solves a problem Rippling and BambooHR only partly solve. **3. BambooHR** - the best "just works" choice for a 20-200 person mostly-US team. Strong preboarding tasks, e-signature contracts, self-service portal, get-to-know-you intro pages. Easiest to roll out without a dedicated HR ops person. **4. Gusto** - if you're small, US-only, and price-sensitive. Payroll-first with competent onboarding attached; cheaper than the above and fine until roughly 50 people. **5. Appical** - a dedicated onboarding *experience* layer rather than an HRIS. Mobile-first journeys, role-based content, preboarding before day one. Good if your problem is that new hires feel lost and disconnected, not that your paperwork is broken. Layer it on top of an HRIS. **6. Donut** (Slack) - not onboarding software, but I'd add it to any of the above for $5-ish/user. Auto-pairs new hires with buddies and schedules intro chats. The social gap is the real failure mode in remote onboarding, and nothing on this list fixes it as cheaply. **7. Workday** - only if you're 1,000+ people with global compliance and audit requirements. Overkill and overpriced below that. One honest caveat: if you're under ~15 people, a good Notion or Asana onboarding template plus a checklist will outperform badly-configured software, and costs nothing. Buy a tool when the manual version is visibly failing. Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
