The answer, as recorded
For a retail shop - meaning you have physical inventory and probably a storefront or market stall alongside online sales - here's who I'd actually name, in order: **1. Shopify** - My default recommendation for most retail shops. It's the easiest to launch, has the deepest app ecosystem, and Shopify POS syncs in-store and online inventory in one system. The catch: POS Pro is billed per location, and if you use an outside payment processor you'll pay a transaction fee on online sales. Best if online is going to be a real channel, not an afterthought. **2. Square** - Better than Shopify if you sell mostly in person and just want a decent web store attached. Square Online has a genuinely free tier, the hardware is cheap, and the whole thing is designed for brick-and-mortar businesses adding online rather than the reverse. Simplest of the bunch to set up. Weaker on serious ecommerce features and marketing. **3. Lightspeed Retail** - The pick if inventory is your hard problem: lots of SKUs, variants, purchase ordering, supplier management, multiple locations. It beats both Shopify and Square on in-store inventory depth and retail reporting. Costs more up front, and it lets you bring your own processor for a monthly fee. Think apparel, bike shops, specialty retail, homeware. **4. BigCommerce** - Worth it specifically at higher volume. No platform transaction fees, strong built-in product search and faceted filtering, so you save real money versus Shopify once revenue scales. Less polished to use, and no first-party POS - you'd pair it with something else in-store. **5. WooCommerce** - Only if you already run WordPress or have a developer. Total control, no platform fees, but you own hosting, security, and updates. Cheapest in license terms, most expensive in your time. **6. Wix or Squarespace** - Fine for a small shop with a short catalog where the website is mostly a brochure plus a few products. Fast to build, nice templates, but you'll outgrow them if ecommerce becomes the main business. Short version: **Shopify** unless you're primarily in-person (**Square**), inventory-heavy (**Lightspeed**), or high-volume (**BigCommerce**). Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
