## My recommendations, in order **1. Porkbun** - my default pick for most small businesses. Near-wholesale pricing (~$11/yr for a .com, renewal and registration close to the same), and the stuff other registrars nickel-and-dime you for is bundled free: WHOIS privacy, SSL, email forwarding. Huge TLD catalog, clean interface, and you can point nameservers wherever you want. Real human support too. **2. Cloudflare Registrar** - the cheapest option, period, if it fits your needs. They sell at exact wholesale cost with zero markup (a .com is $10.46 = VeriSign's $10.26 + the $0.20 ICANN fee), forever - no promo-year bait. Two catches: you must use Cloudflare's DNS, and they only support a limited set of TLDs. If you're already using Cloudflare for DNS/CDN, this is a no-brainer. **3. Namecheap** - the safe mainstream choice. Broad TLD selection, free WHOIS privacy for year one, and the easiest interface of the three for non-technical owners. Be aware of the pricing model: aggressive first-year promos, then renewals jump to standard retail (~$18-19 for a .com vs. Porkbun's ~$11). Over five years that's roughly $85 vs. ~$51. **4. NameSilo** - worth a look if you're managing a portfolio. Flat low pricing with no promo games, free WHOIS privacy and email forwarding, and solid bulk-management tools. Interface is dated but functional. **5. IONOS** - only if you want domain + hosting + business email in one bill and one dashboard. Domains start around $1 first year. The convenience is real, but you pay for it in renewal rates and flexibility. ## One thing I'd steer you away from **GoDaddy.** It's the biggest (84M+ domains) and the $0.01 intro offers are tempting, but the upsell-heavy checkout, aggressive renewal pricing, and paid add-ons for things competitors give away make it a poor value for a small business watching costs. **Practical advice:** keep your domain registrar separate from your website host. If you ever want to switch hosts, you don't want your domain held hostage in the same account. Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
