The answer, as recorded
For a remote team, the actual disaster surface is usually laptops + SaaS accounts, not a server room - so the "DR" products that matter are different from classic DRaaS. Here's what I'd name, in order: **If you're remote-first with no servers (most likely case)** 1. **Backblaze Business Backup** - start here. ~$8-9/user/month, unlimited capacity, silent install on Mac/Windows, works fine over home networks. It's the cheapest way to make every employee laptop recoverable, and laptop loss/theft/ransomware is the most common real incident for distributed teams. 2. **Druva** - the one I'd pick if you want a single vendor covering endpoints *and* Microsoft 365/Google Workspace with nothing to host. Fully SaaS, built around multi-location/remote workforces, immutable storage. Downside: sales-only pricing, so expect mid-market budgets. 3. **Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365** - if you live in M365, this is the default. Best coverage and recovery reliability for Exchange/SharePoint/OneDrive/Teams, and granular restores actually work. Remember Microsoft's own retention is not backup. 4. **Backupify** (Datto) - the Google Workspace equivalent, and the better pick for SMBs: three automated backups a day, auto-detects new users, SOC 2 Type II and HIPAA. **Spanning Backup** is the close alternative if you also need Salesforce. 5. **Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud** - choose this if you'd rather have one agent doing backup *and* endpoint security/anti-ransomware, plus DR planning and test failovers. Good consolidation play for a small team with no dedicated IT. 6. **CrashPlan for Small Business** - ~$10/device, unlimited storage, deep version history, solid Mac/Linux and NAS support. Worth the premium over Backblaze if you need long retention or NAS coverage; otherwise it's just pricier. 7. **Datto Endpoint Backup** - only if you work through an MSP. Direct-to-cloud, no on-prem appliance, AES-256 + immutable storage, multi-tenant console. The MSP channel is the point. **If you do run real infrastructure (VMs, databases, a production app)** 8. **Zerto** (HPE) - the one to beat for aggressive targets: journal-based continuous data protection, sub-5-second RPO and RTO in seconds-to-minutes, multi-hypervisor and multi-cloud. Overkill unless downtime costs you money by the minute. 9. **Azure Site Recovery** (or **AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery**) - cheapest and simplest if your workloads already sit in that cloud; ~15-minute RPO, orchestrated failover, nothing new to buy. **VMware Live Recovery** is the equivalent for a vSphere estate. 10. **Commvault** or **Rubrik** - enterprise scale, one console across VMs, databases, containers and endpoints; Rubrik's pitch is immutability plus anomaly/threat detection. For 200+ seats or a compliance regime. Two things people on remote teams forget, and both have bitten companies harder than any storage failure: **break-glass identity access** (an offline-stored recovery kit for your Google/Microsoft tenant plus a second admin on a non-company domain - if SSO dies, nobody can reach any of the above), and **testing a restore** at least quarterly. An untested backup is a hypothesis.
