The answer, as recorded
Here's who I'd actually recommend, roughly in order: **1. Miro** - The default pick, and what I'd suggest if you don't want to think hard about it. The biggest canvas ecosystem: thousands of templates, the deepest integration list (Jira, Asana, Slack, Zoom, Teams), and solid enterprise governance. It's the one most likely to already be known by a new hire or an outside collaborator, which matters a lot for a remote team. Free tier gets you 3 editable boards; paid starts around $8-10/user/month. **2. FigJam (Figma)** - If any part of your team already lives in Figma, stop here. It's the cheapest serious option (~$3-5/editor/month), fast and pleasant to use, and jumping between a FigJam session and the actual design file is seamless. Weaker than Miro on templates, workshop facilitation, and project-management-style use. **3. Mural** - The facilitator's tool. Built around running structured workshops - timers, private mode for silent voting, "summon participants," outline-driven sessions. If you do a lot of real workshops (design sprints, retros, strategy offsites) rather than passive always-on boards, Mural is better at it than Miro. Also strong on compliance controls, so it shows up a lot in regulated industries. ~$10/user/month. **4. Excalidraw** - Free, open source, loads instantly, no account needed to start. The hand-drawn look is genuinely good for architecture diagrams and quick sketches you paste into a doc or PR. Self-hostable if that matters. Not a replacement for a workshop tool - no templates or facilitation features. **5. Microsoft Whiteboard or Apple Freeform** - The "you already have it" answers. If you're an all-Microsoft 365 shop, Whiteboard is included and embeds directly in Teams meetings; good enough for ad-hoc sketching, well short of Miro otherwise. Freeform is free with Apple devices and nice on iPad with a Pencil, but Apple-only kills it for most mixed remote teams. **6. Canva Whiteboards** - Worth a mention if your team is marketing-heavy and already pays for Canva. The brainstorm-to-polished-deliverable path is the best of any tool here. **Short version:** already on Figma → FigJam. Run real workshops → Mural. Everything else → Miro. Just need diagrams → Excalidraw, free. One practical note: whiteboard sprawl is the real failure mode for remote teams - boards accumulate, nobody can find last quarter's retro. Whichever you pick, agree on a naming and archiving convention early. Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
