The answer, as recorded
## The split that matters first "Corporate card" usually means a charge card underwritten against your business (cash balance or revenue), with spend-management software baked in and **no personal guarantee**. That's different from a small business *credit* card (Amex/Chase/Capital One), which almost always requires a personal guarantee and pulls your personal credit - but gives you revolving credit and richer rewards. Which bucket you belong in depends mostly on whether you hold real cash in a business bank account. ## Corporate card programs (no personal guarantee) **1. Ramp** - my default recommendation for most small businesses. Free, 1.5% flat cash back on everything, unlimited virtual/physical cards, and the expense automation (receipt matching, duplicate-subscription detection, accounting sync) is the best in the category at the free tier. No interest, no fees, no rewards math to optimize. The catch: it's a charge card paid in full each cycle, and your limit is tied to your bank balance. **2. BILL Divvy** - the one to pick if your bank balance is thin. Divvy underwrites through Cross River Bank and is the most willing of the fintech cards to extend a real credit line to bootstrapped businesses under ~$1M revenue, with some customers able to carry a balance. Budget-first UX with strong approval workflows. **3. Brex** - best if you're venture-funded or travel heavily. Limits scale with your funding/cash, and the points multipliers on software and travel beat Ramp's flat 1.5% if your spend is concentrated there. Overkill (and historically less welcoming) for a small bootstrapped shop. **4. Mercury IO** - worth it if you already bank at Mercury. 1.5% on everything from dollar one, no credit check, no personal guarantee. But the limit is tethered to your Mercury balance and 30-day terms only unlock above ~$15K held there, so it's a poor fit as a standalone card. **5. Rho** - flexible qualification, monthly or daily repayment, up to 2% cash back on their Platinum tier. Good middle option. Note most of the detail I found on Rho and Airwallex comes from their own marketing pages, so verify the cash-back tiers and terms directly before committing. **6. Airwallex** - pick this specifically if you pay vendors or contractors in multiple currencies. Zero FX fees and multi-currency balances are the real reason to choose it over Ramp; the US-only feature set isn't differentiated. ## Traditional small business credit cards (personal guarantee) **Amex Blue Business Plus** - the best no-annual-fee card for most small businesses. 2x Membership Rewards points on *all* purchases up to $50K/year (1x after), no annual fee, and it has an intro APR period, so it's genuinely useful if you need to float a balance. Pairs well alongside a Ramp card. **Capital One Spark Cash Plus** - if you spend past that $50K Amex cap. Unlimited 2% cash back with no category caps, $95 annual fee, and broader merchant acceptance than Amex. **Bank of America Business Advantage Unlimited Cash Rewards** - 1.5% unlimited, no annual fee, and the rate goes up meaningfully if you keep balances with BofA under Preferred Rewards for Business. Only worth it if you already bank there. ## What I'd actually do Get **Ramp** as your spend-management backbone (free, no personal guarantee, handles receipts and close), and put a **Blue Business Plus** alongside it for anything you need to carry a balance on or where 2x points beat 1.5% cash. That combination covers the vast majority of small businesses without paying an annual fee.
