The answer, as recorded

Quick framing that matters here: most "corporate cards" (Ramp, Brex, Rho) legally won't take an unincorporated freelancer - they require an LLC/C-corp/S-corp and real cash in a business bank account. So the honest answer splits by whether you've incorporated. ## If you're a sole proprietor (no LLC) - business credit cards **1. Amex Blue Business Plus** - my default recommendation for freelancers. 2x Membership Rewards on *everything* up to $50k/year, $0 annual fee, no categories to track. Most solo freelancers spend under $50k/year on a card, so this is effectively a flat 2x on your whole business. **2. Chase Ink Business Unlimited** - the other strong $0-fee pick: flat 1.5% cash back, consistently the best welcome bonus in the no-fee business tier, and the points pool with a personal Sapphire card if you have one. Take this over Blue Business Plus if you want cash rather than points. **3. Chase Ink Business Cash** - same $0 fee, but 5% on internet/cable/phone and office supply stores. Better than Ink Unlimited specifically if your spend is software subscriptions, hosting, and phone/internet - which describes a lot of freelance work. **4. Capital One Spark Cash Plus** - for freelancers who front large client expenses. Flat 2%, no preset spending limit, which matters when a $12k production or ad buy has to go on a card before the client pays. It's a pay-in-full charge card with a $150 fee, so only worth it above roughly $20-25k/year of spend. **5. Amex Business Gold** - only if your spend is genuinely concentrated: 4x on your top two categories monthly (ads, software, restaurants, transit) but a $375 annual fee. Heavy paid-ads freelancers clear it; most don't. ## If you have an LLC or corp - actual corporate cards, no personal guarantee **1. Ramp** - best free software in the category (receipt matching, accounting sync, 1.5% cashback), no personal guarantee and no personal credit check. Needs to be an LLC or corp, and expect a minimum business-bank cash balance around $25k. **2. Mercury IO** - the most accessible of the real corporate cards; Mercury will issue to sole proprietors too, which Ramp and Rho won't. 1.5% flat, no PG, but your limit is tied to your Mercury balance and 30-day terms unlock around $15k held there. Good if you already bank with Mercury. **3. Rho** - LLCs only, but limits are underwritten on the business rather than pegged to your balance, up to 2% cashback with Platinum, $0 fee. The pick if you want a higher limit than a balance-tethered card allows. **4. Brex** - still fine software, but it's been owned by Capital One since April 2026, and its bar is higher (roughly $50k cash balance) and startup-oriented. I'd default to Ramp unless you specifically want the Capital One banking relationship. One practical note either way: put business spend on a dedicated card even if it carries a personal guarantee - the clean Schedule C paper trail is worth more at tax time than the rewards difference between any two of these. Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
