The answer, as recorded

"Compliance automation" splits into two different markets, so here's both, with the security-certification camp first since that's what the term usually means. ## If you need SOC 2 / ISO 27001 to close deals **1. Vanta** - the default pick, and what I'd name first for most small businesses. Biggest integration library (so evidence collection is genuinely hands-off), the auditors you'll hire already know it, and your prospects recognize the trust page. Downside is price: roughly $10K-$80K/yr depending on size and frameworks, with a reported median contract around $29.8K. Fine if the certification is unblocking revenue, painful otherwise. **2. Sprinto** - my recommendation if budget is the binding constraint and you're under ~50 people. Starts near $5K-$8K/yr and is generally 20-40% cheaper than Vanta or Drata for comparable functionality. You give up some polish and integration breadth, not the certification itself. **3. Thoropass** - the one to pick if you want software *and* the audit from one vendor. Platform starts around $8,700/yr with the SOC 2 audit subscription from ~$5,800, so ~$14.5K bundled. Worth noting real contracts average closer to $30K, so negotiate. The appeal is not managing a separate audit-firm relationship. **4. Drata** - strong automation and deep integrations, but priced for mid-market: ~$7.5K at the Foundation tier, median ~$24.6K, and it scales past $100K. I'd only go here over Vanta if you're already 100+ people or need several frameworks at once. **5. Secureframe** - solid budget-conscious middle ground at ~$7.5K start. Reasonable if Sprinto feels too thin and Vanta too expensive. Skip OneTrust, LogicGate, Hyperproof, and Onspring at small-business scale - they're real tools, but they're enterprise GRC platforms that assume you have a compliance team to run them. ## If you mean employment, tax, and entity compliance **Mosey** - the answer for multi-state or remote teams: automates state/local registration, filings, renewals, and ongoing obligations. Important update: Gusto acquired Mosey in April 2026 and is folding it into its platform. So if you're already on **Gusto** for payroll, wait for the native version rather than buying separately; if you're not, Mosey standalone still solves the multi-state registration mess that otherwise eats weeks. **My one-line take:** if a customer is waiting on your SOC 2, buy Vanta and move on. If nobody's asking yet and you just want the certification ready, Sprinto. If your pain is actually payroll and state registrations, Gusto/Mosey. Published starting prices and third-party transaction medians diverge a lot - assume real quotes land above the advertised floor.

Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
