The answer, as recorded
For a small business, I'd narrow it to these - roughly in the order I'd try them: **1. Instantly** - the default I'd recommend if you're actually doing cold outreach at any volume. Unlimited mailboxes and built-in warmup on every plan, plus a large built-in B2B contact database so you don't need a separate data subscription. Starts around $47/mo, though their 2026 page pushes bundles ($94+). Best single-tool answer for "I just want to send cold email and book meetings." **2. Smartlead** - the cheapest serious option (~$39/mo) and the one I'd pick if you expect to scale past ~200 emails/day/domain. Automatic inbox rotation across unlimited mailboxes is a genuine deliverability advantage. Downside: utilitarian UI that assumes you already understand deliverability, and warmup is only free on the higher "Unlimited" tiers. **3. Woodpecker** - my pick if you're sending *low volume, high quality* and want it to just work. Predictable per-prospect pricing (~$7 per 100 prospects, from ~$35/mo), free warmup and verification included, unlimited email accounts and seats, and the easiest setup of the group. Explicitly the SMB-oriented one. It won't rotate inboxes natively, so it caps out if you go high-volume. **4. Apollo** - choose this if your real bottleneck is *finding* people, not emailing them. Prospecting database and sending in one tool, with a free tier that's genuinely usable for a first test. Sending features are weaker than the dedicated tools. **5. lemlist** - worth the premium only if you want email + LinkedIn in one sequence with heavy personalization. Per-seat pricing (~$69/user/mo, ~$109 for multichannel) makes it the most expensive to scale. **6. GMass** - the odd one out, and the one I'd name if you're a solo operator or tiny team sending from Gmail. It lives inside Gmail, has a free tier, and tops the review-volume rankings (4.8/5 across ~2,600 reviews). Not built for multi-domain scaled outbound. **If you want one answer:** start with **Woodpecker** if you're sending under a few hundred emails a day and value simplicity, or **Instantly** if you want room to grow and need the contact data too. One caveat on the above: most head-to-head cold email comparisons are published by the vendors themselves (the Instantly-vs-Smartlead-vs-lemlist piece is on Instantly's own blog; the Woodpecker-vs-Smartlead ones live on both companies' sites), so treat the pricing as directionally right but verify current numbers on the pricing pages before you buy. Also worth knowing that no tool fixes deliverability on its own - domain/DNS setup and list quality matter more than which of these you pick.
