The answer, as recorded
Since you said "nurseries," I'll assume UK/Ireland and lead with the systems built for EYFS and UK funding; US equivalents are at the end. ## The ones I'd actually shortlist **1. Famly** - my default recommendation for a single site or small group. It's the most polished all-rounder: child development tracking, daily logs, invoicing and payments, parent messaging, sign-in/out, and Tax-Free Childcare integration all in one. £79/month for the Foundation package, £159 for Premium (ex VAT), with a free trial and free tier so you can test it before committing. Highest review volume of any of these (4.7/5 from ~264 UK reviews), which matters - it means the product gets real pressure. Weakest point in reviews is the EYFS progress-tracking view, which some managers find less clear than a tick-list. **2. Blossom Educational** - the closest competitor, same £79 starting price, and the one I'd pick if parent communication and the learning journal are your priority. Its Parent App is genuinely good for real-time updates on a child's day, and reviewers rate it slightly higher (4.9/5) though on far fewer reviews. No free trial or free version, so you're relying on a demo. **3. Connect Childcare (iConnect + ParentZone)** - the one to look at if you're a **group or multi-site operator**. 15+ years in UK childcare, strongest on the back-office end: enquiry pipeline, government grants and funding reconciliation, invoicing, occupancy and reporting across settings. Rated 9.4/10 on Subscribed.fyi. Heavier and more expensive than Famly, and overkill for one room. **4. Tapestry** - not a management system; a learning journal only. Worth naming because if your admin and billing already work and you only want observations, photos, videos and Early Learning Goals assessments shared with parents, it's cheap, widely used across UK nurseries and schools, and the thing staff complain about least. **5. Parenta** - pick this if you want software *plus* services. They bundle nursery management with staff training, apprenticeships, payroll and compliance support, which is useful for a setting with no HR function. 9.3/10. The software itself is not as strong as Famly or Blossom. **6. Cheqdin, Nursery Story, or Baby's Days** - the budget end. Baby's Days (8.5/10) is aimed at childminders and very small settings; Nursery Story and Nursery in a Box cover attendance, invoicing, parent comms and learning journeys at lower cost. Fine for under ~30 places, cramped above that. ## If you're actually in the US **Brightwheel** first (4.7/5, 3,250+ reviews, 96% positive - billing automation and digital check-in are the strong parts), then **Procare Solutions** (4.6/5, 40,000+ centres, best if you need deep accounting and payroll), then **Playground** (4.8/5, newer, modern UI) and **Lillio** (formerly HiMama, 4.6/5, strongest on curriculum and documentation). ## How I'd decide One site, want it to just work: Famly. Multi-site group with funding complexity: Connect Childcare. Parent engagement is the selling point to your families: Blossom. Only need observations: Tapestry. Get the data-export terms in writing before you sign - migrating children's learning records between these systems is the part that goes wrong. Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
