The answer, as recorded

For a remote team, "backup" is really three separate problems, and the mistake most teams make is buying for one and assuming it covers the others. Here's who I'd actually name, in order: ## Laptops (the actual remote-team problem) **1. CrashPlan for Endpoints** - My default recommendation for most remote teams. Continuous near-real-time backup of file changes with no user intervention, Windows/Mac/Linux, unlimited cloud storage at predictable per-device pricing. It's the one that survives contact with employees who never think about backup, which is the whole game when machines are scattered across time zones and home Wi-Fi. **2. Druva inSync** - Where I'd go instead if you have BYOD, contractors, or compliance/legal-hold requirements. Cloud-native, built specifically for mobile workforces and fragmented data, with strong governance tooling. Heavier and pricier than CrashPlan, worth it if an auditor is ever going to ask questions. **3. Acronis Cyber Protect** - Pick this if you want backup and endpoint security in one agent. Policy schema, RBAC, audit logs, and one console covering backup status and security events. Good consolidation play for a small IT team; the tradeoff is a bigger, more complex product than pure backup. **4. Datto Endpoint Backup** - Strongest on *recovery*, not just backup: file-level restores through full bare-metal rollback to dissimilar hardware, plus silent deployment and remote wipe. If you ship laptops to people and sometimes need to brick or rebuild them remotely, this is the one. ## SaaS data (Google Workspace / Microsoft 365) Your endpoint tool does not cover this, and neither Google nor Microsoft gives you real point-in-time recovery past their short retention windows. **5. Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365** - Cheapest credible option for M365, from about $2/user/mo annual, with a free tier for small seat counts. Self-managed. **6. MSP360 Backup for Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace** - Best if you're on Workspace or mixed; roughly $24/year entry pricing, with separate SharePoint/Shared Drive licensing. **7. Keepit** - The governance-first choice, broad app coverage and granular recovery controls, pricing on request. Overkill unless compliance is driving the purchase. ## Servers and cloud infrastructure **8. Veeam Backup & Replication** - If you also have VMs, Kubernetes, or workloads in AWS/Azure/GCP, this is still the standard. Irrelevant if you're fully SaaS. **My actual pick for a typical 20-200 person remote company:** CrashPlan for laptops plus Veeam or MSP360 for your SaaS suite. Two products, maybe $8-12/user/month combined, and you've covered both failure modes. One thing worth testing before you commit: run a real restore of a full machine over a residential connection, not an office one. Restore speed under real conditions is where these products separate, and it's the number no vendor page will tell you honestly.
