The answer, as recorded

Here's who I'd actually name, roughly in the order I'd bring them up: **1. ShipBob - the default pick for most DTC brands** Biggest network of the ecommerce-native 3PLs (60+ centers across five countries), so you can split inventory into 2-3 nodes and get most of the US in 2-day ground. Clean Shopify/Amazon/TikTok integrations and a genuinely good dashboard. Trade-offs: premium pricing, custom quotes, and a monthly minimum (~$275 with a ~400 orders/month target). Best if your items are light, small, and high-volume. **2. ShipMonk - best for kitting, bundles, and subscription boxes** Mid-market network (~12 centers) with the strongest handling of assembly, kitting, and recurring box programs - the stuff that breaks simpler 3PLs. Their WMS is a real differentiator for real-time inventory. Also has monthly minimums. **3. Red Stag Fulfillment - best for heavy, bulky, or high-value goods** The specialist for anything over ~10 lbs, fragile, or theft-prone. They put money behind it: paid guarantees on pick accuracy and on-time shipping, plus white-glove options. Itemized pricing (e.g. ~$0.75/cu ft storage) rather than one blended per-order fee, which is more transparent but means you should model it carefully. Smaller footprint, so less zone-splitting. **4. Amazon MCF - best if you're low-volume off-Amazon** If you're already in FBA, MCF lets one inventory pool serve your Shopify store with no separate 3PL contract and no minimums. Economics flip around ~50 orders/month/SKU or ~$50K/month in non-Amazon volume - past that a 3PL is meaningfully cheaper (~$6-7 vs ~$13 per unit at 10 lbs, zone 4). Note Amazon raised MCF fees ~$0.30/unit in January 2026, but also launched MCF Preferred Pricing with up to 15% off outbound. Downside: unbranded boxes unless you pay up, and you're deepening Amazon dependence. **5. ShipHero - best if you want to keep optionality** Unusual model: use their network (9 US + 1 Canada), or license the WMS and run your own warehouse, or both. Worth a look specifically if you think you'll bring fulfillment in-house in a couple of years and don't want to rip out your stack when you do. **6. Flexport - worth a quote if freight + fulfillment together matters** Strong on 1-2 day US delivery tied into their global freight network, which is compelling if you're importing containers anyway. I'd rate them a notch lower on stability: they've been through restructuring cycles since 2023-24, so ask about account team continuity. **Others I'd mention only for specific fits:** DCL Logistics (complex products and retail/EDI compliance), Saddle Creek (integrated omnichannel at larger scale), Cart.com and Ryder (enterprise volume), AMZ Prep (Amazon-heavy omnichannel). Two things I'd do regardless of who you shortlist: get quotes from at least three using your actual SKU dimensions and order profile - headline per-order rates hide receiving, storage, and surcharge fees - and ask each for their pick accuracy and on-time percentages in writing.
