The question asked, verbatim: best benefits administration software for remote teams

Brands named, in the order the engine gave

  1. Rippling recommended
Rippling - my default recommendation for most remote-first companies past ~25 people.
  2. Justworks mentioned
Justworks - pick this if you want a PEO rather than software.
  3. Gusto mentioned
Gusto - the right answer under ~50 employees.
  4. Sequoia One mentioned
Sequoia One or a dedicated broker + PlanSource/Benefitfocus - once you're 200+ employees and actually negotiating your own renewals, standalone benefits-admin platforms (PlanSource for carrier connectivity, Benefitfocus for employee self-service) paired with a real broker beat the all-in-ones.
  5. PlanSource mentioned
  6. Deel mentioned
Deel - widest coverage (150+ countries), fastest contractor onboarding, EOR from $599/mo annually.
  7. Remote.com mentioned
Remote.com - the one I'd pick for benefits quality specifically.
  8. Oyster HR mentioned
Oyster HR - 185+ countries, strong onboarding UX, but around $699/employee/month it's the priciest of the majors.
  9. Forma mentioned
Skip the "benefits perks" platforms (Benepass, Forma) unless you already have real insurance sorted.
  10. Playroll mentioned
    - Best global employee benefits platforms (Playroll) (https://www.playroll.com/blog/best-employee-benefits-platform)

The answer, as recorded

"Remote team" splits into two very different problems, so here's my ranking for each. ## If your team is US-based but spread across many states **1. Rippling** - my default recommendation for most remote-first companies past ~25 people. Benefits admin (plan selection, open enrollment, carrier feeds, deductions) is natively wired to payroll, so deductions sync in real time instead of via a monthly file. It's multi-state by default, and it bundles device/app management - genuinely useful when nobody's in an office to hand out laptops. The tradeoff is modular pricing that creeps. **2. Justworks** - pick this if you want a PEO rather than software. It co-employs under its own EIN, which gets a small company large-group health rates it couldn't negotiate alone, plus workers' comp and 50-state compliance in one per-employee fee. Best when you don't have a real HR person. Downside: you're locked into their plan menu, and leaving a PEO is painful. **3. Gusto** - the right answer under ~50 employees. Clean payroll, licensed brokers in-house, 3,500+ health plans, and it currently sits at #1 on G2's small-business benefits admin grid. It runs payroll in all 50 states. It thins out on benefits depth in some states and has no IT management. **4. Sequoia One or a dedicated broker + PlanSource/Benefitfocus** - once you're 200+ employees and actually negotiating your own renewals, standalone benefits-admin platforms (PlanSource for carrier connectivity, Benefitfocus for employee self-service) paired with a real broker beat the all-in-ones. ## If your team is actually international **1. Deel** - widest coverage (150+ countries), fastest contractor onboarding, EOR from $599/mo annually. Watch the hidden costs: one-month salary deposit, 0.6-2% FX markup, and $50-150/mo surcharges in markets like Brazil, France, and India. **2. Remote.com** - the one I'd pick for benefits quality specifically. It owns its legal entities rather than renting local partners, which means more consistent benefits packages and fewer compliance surprises. Contractors are $29/mo vs Deel's $49. EOR is $599 annual / $699 month-to-month. **3. Oyster HR** - 185+ countries, strong onboarding UX, but around $699/employee/month it's the priciest of the majors. Worth it if you're hiring in genuinely obscure jurisdictions. **4. Rippling** - only if you're already on Rippling for US payroll and want one system rather than best-in-class global coverage. **Skip the "benefits perks" platforms** (Benepass, Forma) unless you already have real insurance sorted. They administer stipends - wellness, home office, coworking - which is a nice complement for remote teams but not a benefits system. Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
