Here's the order I'd give them, most careful first: 1. **A flat-fee trademark attorney, e.g. Gerben IP.** If the name is your company or main product name, pay for real legal work. The expensive failures are picking a name that's already taken and getting sued, or getting refused after you've built the brand. Filing services don't protect you from either. Gerben lists a $3,000 flat legal fee plus the $350 USPTO fee for one class, and $395/year for monitoring. One third-party site quotes $2,000, so check the current price. It's the priciest option, but the cost is fixed and includes a proper search and attorney review.
