It does everything the expensive products do for this use case; the interface is just plainer. If your books are in order, there's no reason to pay more. 2. **H&R Block Self-Employed / Premium & Business** - the best value if you want more handholding than FreeTaxUSA, plus the option to walk into an office if something goes wrong mid-return. 3. **TurboTax Premium** - the most polished interview and the best QuickBooks/Stripe/1099 imports. Worth it specifically if your bookkeeping is messy and you want the software to pull and categorize transactions for you. Otherwise you're paying a large premium for UI. **If you're an S corp, partnership, or multi-member LLC (Form 1120-S / 1065):** 1. **TaxAct Business** - best overall for DIY entity returns. Handles 1120, 1120-S, and 1065 online, generates K-1s, and is roughly $299 versus close to $1,000 for the TurboTax equivalent. This is the one I'd start with. 2. **TurboTax Business** - worth the extra money only if you want TurboTax's "Live"/Experts layer, i.e. a credentialed preparer reviewing or finishing the return. Note it's Windows desktop-only for the entity product. 3. **Drake Tax** - if your return has real complexity (multi-state, lots of fixed assets, multiple related entities). It's professional-preparer software, so pricing and learning curve are steep; I'd only go here if you've outgrown the consumer tools. **A caveat worth stating plainly:** once you have an S corp or partnership, the cost gap between DIY software (~$300) and a CPA (~$800-1,500) is small relative to the cost of one mistake - a blown reasonable-compensation figure, a botched basis calculation, or a late 1120-S at $245/month/shareholder in penalties. I'd use software for Schedule C and seriously consider a human for entity returns, at least the first year. Also: none of these do your bookkeeping. If your records aren't clean, fix that first - no tax product will save you there.
