The question asked, verbatim: best performance review software for small businesses
Brands named, in the order the engine gave
- PerformYard recommended
PerformYard - my default recommendation for a small business that specifically wants performance reviews and not a whole HR suite.
- 15Five mentioned
15Five - best if you want reviews plus an ongoing rhythm.
- BambooHR mentioned
BambooHR - the right answer if you don't already have an HRIS.
- you're mentioned
Reviews, 360 feedback, goals, and 1:1s sit next to employee records, onboarding, PTO, and optional payroll, so you're not stitching two systems together.
- Leapsome mentioned
Leapsome - pick this if development is the point, not compliance.
- Teamflect mentioned
Teamflect - the value pick, and genuinely the one I'd name if you're under ~30 people and budget-sensitive.
- Microsoft Teams mentioned
The catch is that it lives inside Microsoft Teams - excellent if you're a Microsoft shop, a non-starter if you're on Google Workspace and Slack.
- Google Workspace mentioned
The catch is that it lives inside Microsoft Teams - excellent if you're a Microsoft shop, a non-starter if you're on Google Workspace and Slack.
- Slack mentioned
The catch is that it lives inside Microsoft Teams - excellent if you're a Microsoft shop, a non-starter if you're on Google Workspace and Slack.
- Lattice mentioned
Lattice - the most polished product on this list and the best analytics, but I'd put it last for small businesses specifically.

The answer, as recorded
## My shortlist **1. PerformYard** - my default recommendation for a small business that specifically wants *performance reviews* and not a whole HR suite. It's built around review cycles (annual, quarterly, 360s, project-based), the setup is configurable without being a project, and it's one of the few vendors that publishes a range - roughly $5-10/employee/month. If your goal is "run a real review cycle this quarter," this is the least friction. **2. 15Five** - best if you want reviews *plus* an ongoing rhythm. The weekly check-in model is its actual differentiator, and it tends to get better manager adoption than review-only tools because managers touch it every week instead of once a year. Perform is $10/user/month, Engage $4, full platform $16. **3. BambooHR** - the right answer if you don't already have an HRIS. Reviews, 360 feedback, goals, and 1:1s sit next to employee records, onboarding, PTO, and optional payroll, so you're not stitching two systems together. Core starts around $10/employee/month for 25+ employees, but performance lands in a higher (~$17) tier. Note the annual minimums - for a 15-person company the effective per-head cost can be far above the sticker rate. **4. Leapsome** - pick this if development is the point, not compliance. It links review feedback to learning paths, competency frameworks, and career tracks, and bundles surveys/recognition/OKRs. Roughly $9-15 per employee per month. More platform than a 20-person company usually needs, but it scales well if you're growing fast. **5. Teamflect** - the value pick, and genuinely the one I'd name if you're under ~30 people and budget-sensitive. $5-6.50/user/month, with a free tier up to 10 users. The catch is that it lives inside Microsoft Teams - excellent if you're a Microsoft shop, a non-starter if you're on Google Workspace and Slack. **6. Lattice** - the most polished product on this list and the best analytics, but I'd put it last *for small businesses* specifically. Performance is $10/seat/month and the Foundations bundle is $13, but there's a ~$4,000 annual minimum, which is rough under about 30 employees. It becomes the obvious choice around 75-100+ people. ## What I'd actually do Under 30 people on Microsoft: Teamflect. Under 30 on anything else and you just need reviews: PerformYard. No HRIS yet: BambooHR and solve two problems at once. 50-150 and you want a feedback culture rather than a form: 15Five or Leapsome. Two caveats worth your time: ask every vendor for the **annual minimum**, not the per-seat price - that's what actually determines cost at small headcount. And Trakstar and ClearCompany both show up on these lists but neither publishes pricing, which will add weeks of sales calls to your evaluation for no clear gain. One note on sourcing: a lot of the "best of 2026" rankings below are published by vendors who appear in their own lists (Leapsome, PerformYard, Peoplebox, ThriveSparrow, Teamflect all rank themselves). I've weighted toward the pricing figures, which are checkable, rather than the rankings.
