The answer, as recorded
A note on the sources first: most of the top-ranking "best DLP 2026" pages are vendor-owned listicles (the Strac blog ranks Strac first, etc.), so I'm weighting them for the vendor landscape rather than the rankings. The picks below reflect what actually gets deployed for distributed teams. **The short version:** for remote teams, the deciding factor isn't the DLP engine's cleverness - it's whether the product covers the two paths data actually leaves by: SaaS/cloud apps and the endpoint itself. Most orgs end up with something in each lane, or one platform that spans both. ## Start with what you already own **1. Microsoft Purview DLP** - If you're on Microsoft 365 E5, this is the default answer and you should exhaust it before buying anything. Policies span Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, plus a real endpoint agent for Windows/macOS (USB, print, browser upload). Weakness is well documented: it gets thin the moment data lives outside the Microsoft boundary, and policy tuning is genuinely tedious. **2. Google Workspace DLP** - Same logic on the other side. Included at Enterprise tiers, covers Drive, Gmail, and Chat with rules on sharing and download. No endpoint story, so it's a floor, not a ceiling. ## Cloud/SaaS layer **3. Netskope** - The strongest all-round choice if your risk is data moving through web, SaaS, and unsanctioned apps. Inline proxy plus API scanning of sanctioned apps, mature classification, and the shadow-IT visibility is the best in the category. Good fit when people work from anywhere and you can't rely on a corporate network path. **4. Zscaler** - Direct competitor to Netskope and the pick if you're already standardized on Zscaler for ZTNA/secure web access; the DLP rides on infrastructure you've deployed. Slightly weaker as a standalone data-security product than Netskope, better as part of a consolidated SASE bet. **5. Nightfall AI** - The pragmatic mid-market option. API-based, connects to Slack, Google Drive, GitHub, Jira, Notion in an afternoon, no agents or proxies. If you're 50-500 people and worried about secrets and PII sitting in SaaS, this delivers value faster than anything above. It won't cover USB drives or local file copies. ## Endpoint layer **6. CrowdStrike Falcon Data Protection** - Obvious pick if you already run Falcon: same agent, no new deployment, file-lineage-based tracking rather than pure pattern matching. Less mature than the standalone DLP veterans, but the zero-deployment-cost argument is strong. **7. Cyberhaven** - The differentiated one. Tracks data lineage - where a file came from and everywhere it went - instead of just scanning content, which cuts the false-positive rate that makes classic DLP unbearable. Best for insider-risk and departing-employee scenarios, which is exactly the remote-team failure mode. Premium pricing. **8. Forcepoint DLP** - The enterprise incumbent, alongside Symantec/Broadcom DLP. Deep policy control, strong regulated-industry content packs (PCI, HIPAA, GDPR). Choose it if you have compliance auditors to satisfy and staff to run it; it's heavy for a small team. **9. Endpoint Protector (CoSoSys) or CurrentWare** - Budget endpoint control for smaller orgs. Device control, USB blocking, cross-platform including Linux. Not really a data-security platform, but if your actual requirement is "stop people copying files to thumb drives," it's a fraction of the cost. ## What I'd actually do If you're Microsoft-centric: Purview first, add Netskope only if shadow SaaS is a real problem. If you're Google/SaaS-native and under ~500 people: Nightfall for the SaaS layer plus your EDR vendor's data module for endpoints. If you're regulated and enterprise-scale: Forcepoint or Symantec plus Netskope. One gap worth scoping now regardless of vendor: GenAI usage. Employees pasting source code and customer data into ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, and Cursor is the leading cause of new exposure, and the older DLP products largely don't see it. Ask every vendor specifically how they inspect AI tool traffic - browser extension, endpoint agent, or proxy - before signing. Answer Watch records what one AI answer engine said on one date, nothing more. Each page names the engine and the model, carries the date the question was asked, and lists the brands that appeared in the answer in the order the engine gave them, with the sources it cited. It is a measurement, not a ranking, not a recommendation and not a claim about the world. Brands that did not appear in an answer are not named on any public page.
