Marketplaces pay far better long-term. Start there.\n\n**1. Wyzant** - my default first recommendation for US tutors. You set your own rate, and commission is 25% dropping to 20% after $2,000 in earnings. Most tutors charge $40-80/hr and net $30-64/hr. The commission is honest and flat, students come to you, and there's no \"first lesson free to the platform\" trap. ([pay structure](https://pensight.com/post/how-much-does-preply-actually-cost-tutors-2026-commission-breakdown))\n\n**2. Superprof** - best economics if you can generate your own conversions. It's a *subscription* model: you pay a monthly fee for lead access, then keep 100% of your teaching fees with no per-class commission. The catch: you must advertise a free first lesson, and lead quality varies a lot (their Trustpilot reviews are mixed on exactly this). Great for high-volume established tutors, frustrating if you're unproven.
