They charge 10-35% and most of them own the client relationship. The best setup is usually **one or two marketplaces to fill your calendar + your own booking/invoicing stack for repeat clients**, migrating students over time.\n\n## Marketplaces where you set your own rate (start here)\n\n1. **Wyzant** - the best US academic marketplace for serious money. You set your rate (commonly $25-$60/hr academic, $50-$90/hr university-level), and the commission is 25% until you've earned $2,000, then drops to 20%. Front-loaded fee, no free trial lessons demanded - the fairest of the big US players.\n2. **Superprof** - lowest commission of the lot at ~10%, tutors set rates $20-$80/hr, works across many countries and in-person as well as online. The catch: it's lead-gen more than a managed marketplace (you convert your own inquiries), and new tutors have to give the first lesson free until they hit \"Super Tutor\" status.\n3. **italki** - if you teach languages, this is the one. A flat, transparent **15%**, no cut-grabbing on trial lessons, and \"professional teacher\" status suppo", "answer_truncated": true, "measurement": "One answer from one engine on one date.
