The big variable is commission - it ranges from 5% to 40%, and that difference dwarfs everything else over a year.\n\n**1. Wyzant** - My default first recommendation for US academic tutoring. ~65,000 tutors, 300+ subjects, you set your own rate (most charge $40-80/hr), and the cut is 25%, dropping to 20% once you've earned $2,000. Strong student demand so you actually get inquiries, and the \"you set the price\" model means your ceiling isn't capped by the platform.\n\n**2. Preply** - Best pure volume for language teaching, and increasingly other subjects (120+ subjects, 180 countries). Be clear-eyed about the economics: commission *starts at 33%* and only falls as you log hours, so new tutors often net $8-15/hr. It's a great place to build a book of repeat students fast, less great as a permanent home.\n\n**3. italki** - The one I'd pick over Preply if you teach a language and can bring any students of your own. 15% commission (less than half Preply's starting rate), you set your rate, professional teachers average $25-45/hr. Lower marketing push than Preply, so expect a slower start.\n\n**4. Tutor.com** - Pick this if", "answer_truncated": true, "measurement": "One answer from one engine on one date.
