Here's what I'd actually point you to, in order:\n\n## Marketplaces (they find the students, take a cut)\n\n1. **Wyzant** - My default first recommendation for US academic tutoring. 300+ subjects, you set your own rate, and the fee structure is the most honest of the big marketplaces: a flat 25% from lesson one, no sliding scale and no free trial lessons you're forced to give away. Most tutors there land in the $35-$60/hr range. The catch is real though: commission starts around 33% for new tutors and only drops toward ~18% after you've logged a lot of hours, and Preply keeps **100% of your first lesson** with every new student. Good long-term, punishing at the start. ([tutafy.com](https://www.tutafy.com/blog/how-much-does-preply-take))\n3. **Varsity Tutors** - Worth it if you'd rather not do your own marketing or client-chasing at all.
