Here's who I'd actually name, in order:\n\n**1. OnPay - my default pick for most small-to-midsize nonprofits.** Flat, transparent pricing (~$49/mo + $6/person, one plan, no tiers), handles the 501(c)(3) FUTA exemption natively at no extra charge, and supports 403(b) and 457 deductions, which matter in this sector and which some small-business tools treat as an afterthought. It also does unlimited pay runs and all 50 states' filings in the base price. For a 10-75 person org, this is the best cost-to-capability ratio.\n\n**2. Gusto - if ease of use and self-service matter more than cost.** Best onboarding and employee experience of the bunch, auto-handles FUTA exemption for 501(c)(3)s, and plays nicely with QuickBooks and Xero. Slightly pricier and note there's no standing nonprofit discount, despite what you may hear - just occasional partner promos.\n\n**3. QuickBooks Payroll - if your books are already in QuickBooks Online.** The real argument here is the class/location tagging: labor posts straight to programs and grants without a second reconciliation step.
