For a small business on Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, the better architecture is your provider's native filtering plus one API-connected layer sitting behind it. That's cheaper, deploys in an afternoon, and doesn't break your mail flow when the vendor has an outage.\n\nHere's who I'd actually name, in order:\n\n**1. Microsoft Defender for Office 365 Plan 1 (~$2/user/mo)** - Start here if you're on M365. It's the cheapest real improvement you can make: Safe Links, Safe Attachments, and anti-phishing on top of Exchange Online Protection. Plenty of small businesses buy a third-party tool while leaving this off, which is backwards. Note it's already bundled in Business Premium, so check your license before paying twice.
