GoodHire (a Checkr company)** - My default recommendation for a small business doing occasional hiring. It was built specifically for the self-service SMB market: fully online, built-in FCRA compliance workflows (adverse action letters, candidate consent), no monthly minimums, and real US-based phone support - which matters a lot the first time a check comes back with a hit and you don't know what you're legally allowed to do with it. Pricing runs roughly $29.99-$79.99 per check with a one-time setup fee. Checkr acquired GoodHire's parent, Inflection, in 2022 for about $400M specifically to serve small businesses, and the brand still runs as its own product.\n\n**2. Checkr** - Go here instead if you're hiring at volume or want the check wired into your ATS/HRIS automatically. It's API-first with a large integration library and fast turnaround, tiered around $29.99 (Basic+) / $54.99 (Essential) / $79.99 (Professional). Overkill if you hire three people a year; the right answer if you hire thirty.\n\n**3. Certn** - Best pick if you hire internationally or want true pay-as-you-go with no setup fee and no minimum.
